Among the three conditions that, in my opinion, a true poem must fulfill -emotion, intensity, formal purity-, it is Claudio Rodríguez’s oeuvre that fulfills the three of them in the most overwhelming way. Thereby his permanent example.

[…] However, beyond the evidence of those three conditions for any true poem in him, what has always surprised me most about his oeuvre is its very special telluric dimension, the fact that both author and reader recognize a universe in the most humble elements of his native landscapes—the inexhaustible source of any poetic memory.
